66 - Imaging women with dense breasts: description of the problem and a promising solution. László Tabár, MD

Imaging women with dense breast is a considerable problem, causing a lower sensitivity in finding benign and malignant lesions hiding in the dense fibroglandular tissue. Ultrasound acts as a radar by penetrating the dense breast tissue. Studies using automated breast ultrasound as an adjunctive method to FFDM , carried out in the USA and in Sweden,  resulted in the detection of 26-36% more invasive breast cancers. The combination of the two methods is a promising solution to screening women with dense breasts.
