Multiple clusters of crushed stone-like microcalcifications with no associated tumor mass. Group 2A: normal breast tissue among the individual CIS foci. Group 2B: mammographically occult non-calcified cancer of ductal origin surrounds the multiple crushed stone-like calcification foci.
Features of Groups 2A malignant type pleomorphic calcifications:
1) Multiple clusters crushed stone-like calcifications on the mammogram
2) Reasonable concordance between the mammographic findings and histopathology in group 2A
3) Normal breast tissue separates the affected TDLUs in group 2A cases
Practicing Group 2A pleomorphic calcification cases
Calcified LCIS – a new entity.
Features of Group 2B malignant type pleomorphic calcifications:
1) Multiple clusters crushed stone-like calcifications on the mammogram
2) Mammography underestimates the true extent of the disease due to the presence of occult, extensive DAB
3) The role of MRI to help us describing the extent of the disease.
4) A very deceptive subgroup with potentially poor outcome.
Practicing Group 2B cases.
